A new Rocket League update contains some exciting news for those who are still actively playing the game on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. The update is available now on the Rocket League website. There has been some speculation this week that Psyonix and Epic Games are planning to port the game to Unreal Engine 5, which would make sense considering that Epic Games is the company that created Unreal Engine 5. One of the job listings mentioned that the game would be upgraded to the most recent version of the Unreal Engine, which sparked the rumor. Within a short period of time, a developer on the Psyonix platform confirmed that this is exactly what happens.
It was revealed by the developer on Reddit that the team is actively working on upgrading the technology that powers Rocket League, which may include moving from Unity 3D to UE5. As a long-term project, we'll share more details as soon as we're ready to show our players what's next in the pipeline.
It remains to be seen what the long-term project will reveal. Although the wording suggests that this has been in the works for some time, this is not always the case in practice. For all we know, this is only the beginning of the process. Even if it were the latter, you'd expect the developer to set realistic expectations for the project.
